In the picturesque village of Rincon you can explore two unique car routes, one of which is the Goto route. This special route takes you past breathtaking natural scenes and places rich in history and culture. As the name suggests, the route passes the famous Goto Lake and winds its way along the western coastline.
Your adventure starts at the Cadushy distillery in Rincon, where they produce a delicious liqueur from cacti. Except on Sundays, you can go here from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm – well worth a visit. Shortly afterwards you will come to a viewpoint, Altamira Unjo - 'Uncle Joe's View', which offers a phenomenal view over Rincon's valley, complete with benches to enjoy the panorama. The route continues to the west coast, and just before you reach it, on your left you will find one of the most iconic buildings on Bonaire, Landhuis Karpata. Also known as Kas Grandi, this house is recognized as a cultural heritage and was built in 1868, originally called Borneo, on a plantation where goats and aloe vera were kept. Well worth a visit.
Driving along the coast, the route offers numerous opportunities for a snorkeling or diving break in the refreshing waters, before heading further inland. The Goto Lake appears on your left, the source of inspiration for the name of this route. This lake is a crucial habitat for many bird species, including flamingos and various migratory birds. Beyond the lake stands the historic Dos Pos windmill, which was once essential to the local population's water supply. The Dos Pos and Montaña hiking trails also start here. After this mill the starting point appears again.
